SULSESC REPORT

by Ian Tremayne at Glanford Park

PHEW, what a thriller as the 5,000 plus crowd bathed in intermittent sunshine and downpours.

As the first–half unravelled, it became apparent that the Iron were getting well on top with Hayes and the soon to be Irish Under–21 international Keogh running the Lincoln defence ragged.

I normally expect Lincoln to put it about a bit, and I wasn't disappointed as they reverted to type, bringing down our brave lads at the first signs of danger.

It did them no good, however, as from a cross from the ageless Beagrie, Kell buried the ball with a diving header.

Soon after the second–half started, Butler rose in the box to meet another Beagrie corner and it was 2–0. We were coasting.

Silly me, I thought it was all over but with little more than 10 minutes to go, Lincoln pulled one back from a twice taken penalty in front of their own fans.

Still we looked the better team, but we all know what happens to the Iron with one minute to go, don't we! We conceded another and it was 2–2.

Now the script says we concede a third in stoppage time but-no! Yet again, that man Beagrie puts in a wonderful corner and superstar of the future Butler heads in to silence the Lincoln fans in their song "2–0 and you **** it up". Oh, joy of joys, and no more than we deserved
